Abstract

Among 90 CPI cities, 73 cities experienced inflation and 17 cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Sintang by 1.21 percent and the highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan by 1.20 percent. Sampit ranks 17th highest inflation city at the national level.

Inflation in Sampit by 0.55 percent in February 2020 occurred because of an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the price index in five expenditure groups, respectively the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Group by 1.23 percent, the Personal Care Group and Other Services by 0.72 percent, the Transportation Group by 0.32, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels by 0.14 percent, the Education Group by 0.04 percent. While the expenditure groups that experienced a price index decline were the clothing and footwear group by -0.17 percent, the information, communication and financial services group by -0.10 percent, and the household appliances, equipment and routine maintenance group by -0.07 percent.

Commodities that had the highest share of a significant increase in the price index in Sampit during February 2020 were garlic, purebred chicken, filter clove cigarettes, cayenne pepper and shallots.
