Abstract

During October 2019, Sampit City experienced an increase in commodity prices in general (inflation) by 0.21 percent with a consumer price index of 140.21. The calendar year inflation rate is 1.04 percent and the year on year inflation rate (October 2019 to October 2018) is 2.37 percent.
Inflation in Sampit City during October 2019 occurred due to an increase in the index in four expenditure groups, respectively the Clothing Group by 2.01 percent, the Foodstuffs Group by 0.53 percent, the Transportation, Communication, and Financial Services Group by 0.10 percent, and the Food, Beverage, Cigarettes and Tobacco Group by 0.03 percent.
The commodities that had the highest share of a significant increase in the price index in Sampit City during October 2019 were poultry meat, gold jewelery and long beans. Meanwhile, the commodities that had the highest share of significant decreases in the price index were color television, onions and chicken eggs.
Of the 9 CPI cities on the island of Borneo that counted inflation in October 2019, sequentially inflation occurred in Tanjung City (Tabalong) by 0.78 percent, Palangka Raya City by 0.64 percent, Sampit City by 0.21 percent, Pontianak City by 0.15 percent, and the city of Banjarmasin by 0.12 percent. In contrast, deflation occurred in Balikpapan successively by 0.69, Singkawang City by 0.48 percent, Tarakan City by 0.30 percent and Samarinda City by 0.12 percent.
