Abstract

In March 2019, the number of poor people (population with per capita expenditure per month below the Poverty Line) in Kalimantan Tengah reached 134,594 people (4.98 percent), decreasing by 1,852 people compared to September 2018 which amounted to 136,446 people (5, 10 percent).
  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas in September 2018 was 4.56 percent, down to 4.47 percent in March 2019. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in September 2018 of 5.45 percent fell to 5.33 percent in March 2019.
  • During the period September 2018 - March 2019, the number of poor people in urban areas rose by 431 people (from 48,127 people in September 2018 to 48,558 people in March 2019), while in rural areas there were 2,283 people (from 88,319 people in September 2018 to 86,036 people in March 2019).
  • The role of food commodities on the poverty line is 79.05 percent, far greater than the role of non-food commodities. The three types of food commodities that have the greatest influence on the value of the Poverty Line are rice, filtered clove cigarettes, broiler meat (in urban areas) and rice, filtered clove cigarettes, broiler eggs (in rural areas). Whereas the five dominant non-food commodities are housing, electricity, gasoline, education and toiletries.
