Abstract

During August 2018, Sampit City experienced a general increase in commodity prices (inflation) of 0.27 percent with a consumer price index of 137.19. The calendar year inflation rate was 4.59 percent. Meanwhile, the inflation rate "year on year" (August 2018 against August 2017) was 5.38 percent.

Inflation in Sampit City during August 2018 occurred due to an increase in the index of five expenditure groups, with the highest expenditure group being the Transport, Communication and Financial Services Group at 1.48 percent compared to July 2018.

Commodities that had the highest share of the significant price index increases in Sampit City during August 2018 were air transportation, cars, filter clove cigarettes, tude fish, and motorbikes. Meanwhile, commodities that had the highest share of significant price index declines were chicken meat, shallots, cayenne pepper, broiler eggs, and oranges.
